MB6FR & MB6IFR Digital Simplex Gateways
I run two simplex gateways and have done so for a couple of years now. This was one of the main reasons I took the Intermediate licence exam, so I could apply for the Notice of Variation here in the UK from Ofcom! I really enjoy running the gateways for people local to me so they can talk all over the world using Yaesu System Fusion and D Star!
My first gateway I applied for was MB6IFR, this was originally Fusion on 431.1375Mhz, there was no space available for 2m when I applied so this was on for 8 hours a day as stated in my NOV. Then an available frequency became available for 2m so I applied for an NOV and moved my Fusion gateway to 144.8375Mhz, I then applied to change my 70cms gateway to multimode but currently it is only D-Star enabled, I tried to get this to work on DMR but I struggled with the BER. From what I have read the Yaesu FT7800R is not suitable for use on DMR so I am looking for a motorola radio.
MB6FR is running on a Yaesu FTM100d & a HRI 200 Wires X box. This is fed through to a dedicated PC to run the wires X software and is on 24 hours per day 7 days a week, again this is simplex on 144.8375Mhz.
MB6IFR is using my Yaesu FT-7800R and a Raspberry Pi 3b with a repeater board on top wired to the data port on my radio using Pi-Star.
Both my radios then go into a Comet Duplexer then up to my Diamond x50 fed with Messi & Paoloni Hyperflex 10 coax! This is fantastic coax and you can see my review of this on my youtube channel. I also show my shack in a virtual tour, including a look at the gateways! I have also done a Complete Guide to yaesu System Fusion Video showing new users how everything works including from a repeater/gateway keepers point of view.
Thanks for looking and please treat the gateways as your own! MB6FR is set to default to the North West Fusion Group room after 60 minutes of inactivity. You can of course change either gateway to wherever you like but fusion will just default back after 60 minutes if you do not use it. I set this up like this as some people just enjoy listening to rooms they like and can enjoy using it this way, 60 mins is the maximum I can set this timeout to. You cannot break anything so just enjoy using them 🙂
